Dr Gavin Farrell, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Welcome! I am Dr Gavin Farrell, a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist with over 20 years experience in the NHS and private practice. Since first studying Psychology in my early 20s, I have been fascinated by learning how to help people overcome difficult experiences, limiting beliefs and negative emotions in order to be free to live the life they wish to have. My approach integrates the most effective strategies from a number of psychological models with recent discoveries in brain-body research to offer a gentle and effective therapy.
Beginning psychological therapy can be a daunting prospect, so it is important to feel comfortable with your therapist. To help decide if I am able to be of help, I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation.
I have worked in NHS mental health and physical health services with clients with depression, relationship and anger issues and a range of anxiety disorders including OCD, PTSD, panic, social anxiety, health anxiety and general anxiety disorder as well as addiction issues.
As a Neuropsychologist, I also have experience in supporting people cope with physical health conditions including chronic pain, persistent post-concussion as well as neurological and functional neurological disorders including dissociative/non-epileptic seizures.
My core approach is to provide a collaborative and client-centred space where we can develop a shared understanding of current difficulties and therapy goals. My practice integrates the most effective strategies from a number of therapy models including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centered counselling, psychodynamic therapy and innovative mind-body based therapies (Image Transformation Therapy and clinical Emotional Freedom Technique) in order to create individually-tailored treatment.
I am registered with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist and as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. I adhere by their codes of conduct, ethics and requirements for ongoing supervision and continuing skill development.
